A walk between the river and forest
A grizzly bear, Ursus arctos horribilis, walks along the rockweed, Fucus distichus, that covers the rocks that border the Khutzeymateen River. The grizzlies ragged and wet coat show the loss of the bears winter coat as the short summer approaches the Canadian coast. This was my first time coming so late in the season and seeing the bears raggedy coats was at first a little disappointing but the more I saw the coats I realized it showed a very important part of the bears existence and the cycle of life.
